Wednesday June 13, 2007. MLK program called, Gear Up, took a field trip to the zoo. I am one of the students that are involved in Gear Up. My name is Tiffany. The zoo was a lot of fun except we had to get up very early to go. We went to Chicago Lincoln Park Zoo, it was cool. When we first got there we saw the lions. There were 3 of them, they were so cool, but they didn’t look real, but trust me they were very real. Then we went to go see the gorillas, monkeys, and chimpanzees. They were cool, there was two monkeys that were fighting, one didn’t have an arm and it was winning the race. Then there were two monkeys that were mating, Mrs. Mac said,” it was about the time for them to do that and that’s why the other two monkeys were fighting.” Then we saw a pregnant gorilla. Did you know that male gorillas have babies by other female gorillas? Then there were seals, giraffes, birds, and more animals. Story by : Tiffany-Age 13 |

The last chapter ended with Abby and Ellie going to lunch. That’s just about how this chapter is going to end except instead of Abby and Ellie it’s going to be Max and Aaron. When Max got into his room there was already another boy in there listening to something on his headphones and apparently didn’t here Max come in until Max shut the door behind him. “Hi! Are you new here? What’s your name? Are you going to be my new bed bunker? Did anybody come with you? Where are your bags? Did you already meet my sister?” said the boy on the bed making Max dizzy. “What?” said Max. “Sorry, that’s something that my sister and I do. We make people feel weird when we first meet them because we talk too much. Maybe I should shut up now yeah.” “What?” “Sorry. Do you want to answer the first question that I asked?” “That would be nice,” said Max. “Well, first of all my name is Aaron and the first question was, “Are you new here?” which I can see that you are. So the second question was ‘What’s your name?’” “My name is Max Smith and I’m 5 and I’m in Mrs. Ivonelli’s K/1 class at Charleston Elementary School.” “Wow. I’m Aaron Coleman and I’m in Mr. Reighberg’s 3rd grade class at Halfpoint Orphanage. And you are no longer in Mrs. Ivonelli’s class you are in Miss Huske’s Kindergarten class at Halfpoint Orphanage.” “How would you know what class I’m in?” “Because there is only one Kindergarten teacher here and I’ve lived here for a long time. Now let’s get back to the questions. Question #3, ‘Are you going to be my new bed bunker?’” “What the heck is a bed bunker?” “A bed bunker is some one who is sleeping in the same room as you. Or I think of it as someone who is sleeping on a bunk bed with you because we have bunk beds here and so that’s what I call a bed bunker.” “Cool” “Now for question #4, ‘Did anybody come with you?’” “Yes. My sister did. Her name is Elizabeth Smith. But she likes it better when you call her Ellie.” “That’s cool. My sister, Abby came with me when I came here too. Do you know what room she’s in?” “Yeah. She’s in the room right across from us.” “So is my sister. I guess they’re bed bunkers.” After Aaron said that Max and Aaron both laughed. “How old is she?” “9.” “My sister’s 9 too.” “I thought that you said that you were 9.” “I am.” “How can you both be the same age? Only twins are like that.” “We are twins.” “Then shouldn’t you be a girl or she be a boy?” “There are some kinds of twins who aren’t as popular and one of them is a boy and the other is a girl.” “That would be cool if you and me became good friends and Ellie and your sister would be good friends too.” “Alright. Just 2 more questions to go. Question #5, ‘where are your bags?’.” Max thought about the question. “My house got burnt down with my Mommy in it. The British took my 3 day old brother and gave him too some lady named Emily.” “Well that’s sad. My mom died and my dad went to jail and we got sent to this place.” Aaron decided not to tell Max the whole story. “And now the moment you have all been waiting for… Question #6, ‘Have you met my sister?’” Aaron continued “and we have already answered that. So unlike my sister I follow my schedule. Now we go to lunch. And we have the best cook so let’s go meet him. |
